CAMP NOTES.

Just before the Canterbury Company left camp for town yesterday, 100 men, the Otago aud Southland portion. o£ the Fifth Contingent, detrained a* the Show Grounds siding. They are in command of Captain Jackson, whose officers are Lieutenants VV. H. Rose, W. Marshall, and A- McLennan. The men took the tents just vacated by the Canterbury Company. They' will detrain their 120 horses this afternoon. Captain Jackson is awaiting further orders. They left Dunedin, by special train at ten o'clock on Slondajyjiight, and arrived at the Show Grounds tiding about noon. The horses were all detraitxed shortly before one o'clock, and ]:sd been stabled and fed by two o'cfocK. It goes almost without saying that bolh gifts were highly appreciated. Major Wright, Serjeant-Major G. E. Rhodes, and Captain Mott'att, of tho transport Maori, wero also amongst those who were present at the social gathering to tho Contingent on Monday. Mrs Fox contributed a recitation, "Tho Rough Riders,' for which she received, and responded to, an encore.
