m ' —.— : DEATH OF MR W. CROWTHER, M.H.R. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, -.-arch 15. '•- . Mr Wm. Crowther, M.H.R. for the city, died this afternoon at his residence at Remuera. It is understood the complaint was cancer of the stomach. [Tne late member for Auckland City had been identified with the progress of the city for a great number of years, and rase to honourable prominence by his own industry and perseverance. About thirty-three years ago he started alivery stable, and established 'bus traffi'J between Auckland and -Jewmarket, Shortly before 1893, when he was first elected to '<■' represent*:-Auckland, Mr Crowther had retired from business. He took great interest in civic matters, and was a member' of the City Council for about sixteen years. He wa_ for two years Mayor of Auckland, and at one period held the position of Chairman of the Harbour Board. He was an Oppositionist in politics.]
