ASHBURTON SACRED HEART HIGH SCHOOL.
The annual concert and distribution of prizes at the Sacred Heart School, Ashburton, took place on Thursday afternoon. The display of needlework, writing, drawing, mapping, painting, etc., arid'the excellent programme of music, bore testimony to the thorough training the pupils receive from the sisters in charge of the convent. The Very Rev. Dean O'Donnell, and the Hon. Major Steward, M.H.R., each addressed tlie pupils, and, the former distributed the prizes, as follows: — Good Conduct— Boarders: Teresa Leddy and Maggie Duncan. Day Pupils: Annie Davia and Ha Paul. Christian Doctrine— Mary McKay 1, Mary. Devlin 2, Minnie Costello '3. Attenda&e-rHilda . FTiedlaaidjsr. Class Vll.—Reading recitation and writing: Violet Johnston. Geography and mapping: Margaret Duncan; English: Teresa Leddy. French: Ist Division, Henrietta Denshire; 2nd Division, Annie Dowling. Arithmetic:; Mildred Brock. Algebra: Nellie Bonifont. Book-keeping: Hilda Friedlander. History: Annie Dowling. Freehand drawing: Annie Davis. Class Vl.—lst Division: Reading and recitation, Henrietta Denshire; English, geography, mapping, and freehand drawing, Ila Paul; arithmetic and Algebra, Mary McKay; history, Lena Lagan; general progress, Carrie Friedlander. Class VI., 2nd Division-—Beading and recitation, Ethel Waleh; arithmetic and writing, Mary Devlin. Class IV.—Reading and recitation, Minnie O'Connor; arithmetic, Minnie Ccatello;. geography, Winnie Brick. Class IL— Reading .and recitation, Florrie Brophy; arithmetic" and geography, Madeline Brick; general progress, Alberta Shrimpton. Extras *-Music—Piano: Ist - prize, V.J ohnston; 2nd prize, Mary McKay. Violin: Julia Brick. Singing: Julia Brick. Oil painting: Mildred Brook. Water Colours: Mildred Brock. Needlework: Ist prize, Henrietta Denshire; 2nd prize, Nellie Bonifant.
The annual distribution of prizes at the Hainpstead school took place on Thursday, when Mrs J. E. Bland presented the awards.
