AMATEUR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the Council of the Amateut Athletic Association was held in the, Oes cidentai Hotoi last light. Present—Mr J. F. Grierson (rice-president) in the choir, and Messrs P. Selig and H. Cowsjahaw (South' Canterbury), W. G. Garrard (Te Awamutu), L. W. Harley, lion, secretary (Wellington), H. S. Batchelor (Waikato), W. G. Atack • (Wanganui), C. F. Smith (Waipa), W. A. 'Mansell (Post and Telegraph), Dr. Thom_-i (Thames). Mr R. T. Lees was appointed delegate for the Auckland Club in place ol Mr Woods, who had resigned. Apc-ogies were received from Dr. Jen* rungs and Mr Weston. Patrick O'Connor (Nelson), who. waa favourably reported on by the Re-instate-ment Ooiamitbee, was re-instated. Four. other applications for re-instatement were declined. A letter from Mr P. Selig, declining to accept the position of manager of the New Zealand team to Australia and New Zealand representative to the Australian Confer* .np_ on account of business, waa received. ( The 'Secretary reported that the Selection Committee had secured Mr N. L. Mcßeth, who was able to get away. Connmunibationß from South Canterbury stating that JMalthus could ga with the team, and from Auckland containing __milar information regarding McAffer, were read. A telegram was also read from the Auckland Glub suggesting that the team should leave Aucldaaid on October 23rd, otherwise the short tune "which would elapse after th* team arrived, and before the events, would militate against the success of the teaan. Grierson, reported that they had met a.deputation of three from the New Zealand Leagne of Wheelmen, who had mode it clear that their chief desire was to see one governing body in New Zealand for cycling, and that body the New Zealand League of Wheelmen. Subsequently the Committee'had met representatives of the New Zealand <3y<ui*ts* Alliance on th© matter. They had met the representatives of both bodies in a, most conciliatory spirit, and thrown out'suggestions that a settlement might oo arrived'a*, wi-kfti they believed had been favourably entertained. They had drawn np the following so}_emo:—(l) -Hcing in New Zealand shall be goven d by one body, say, the New Zealand League of Wheelmen; (2) that it shall consist of two sections —amateurs who can sign the existing amateur definition, and cash riders or professionals; (3) that eadh section shaM have complete control of its own affairs.
