AKAROA COUNTY HORSE SHOW

At the Akaroa County horse show, on Thursday, the class for lady's hack naturally attracted a large amount of interest, more especially as there was keen competition though two or three of the horses were not ridden to advantage. Mr T. O. Hay's Corbie, who was nicely handled by Mrs Latter, was placed first; Mr H. D. Buchanan's Dougal, though rather too heavy for a lady's hack, was second; and Mrs Roberts' Romeo third. . These two horses were respectively well ridden by Mrs Buchanan end Zilrs Roberts. Miss Nora Matter won tiie special prize as the best girl rider, and tha following were other awards:—Hack brood mare—H. W. Piper's Polly, 1; J. Montgomery's Sheila, 2. Tandem team—R. Latier's Jock and Tom, 1. Two-year-old hack —H. Piper, 1, and special as being by Victor. Yearlong by Black Arrow—BL, Hunt, 1. Pony between 13hds and 14__ds lin—G. McKays Toby, 1; W. H. Oldridge's Eclipse, 2. Best boy rider—Maiter Arnold Ware. Best troop horse— J. Rose's Moori, 1; .S. Nutfc's Te Ra, 2. Pony under 13 bds— R. Latter's Tiddlewinks, 1; T. Ware's Dolly, 2. i>est boy rider—Master E. Latter. Hunter—J. Montgomery's Gaffer, 1; V. Masefield, 2. Walking horse—C. Mould's Countess, 1. High jump—R. J. Fleming's Harka/way, 4ft 3in, 1; A. Goodwin's'Dinah, 2

At the dinner held in the evening, there was a large atendance, Mr R. Latter, president, occupying the chair, and Mr H. W. Piper the vice-chair. A number of toasts, appropriate to the occasion, were duly honoured, the question of light horse breeding form-tig an interesting subject of discussion. Several of those present contributed songs, most of which were of a patriotic nature, and altogetiher a pleasant time was spent. The Lyttelton Marine Band supplied the music, and Mr and Mrs Beeoher provided an excellent dinner, which was also well served. Yesterday morning the Chriatohureh and Lyttelton visitors returned by Barker's coaches to Pigeon Bay, and then took the John Anderson to Port, having had a most enjoyable trip to the Peninsula.
