The other toasts were—"The District and Battalion Staff," proposed by Captain Chariewood, responded to-by JjeutenantrColonel Prancis and Captain and Adjutant Hobday;."The Other Companies in the North Canterbury Infantry Battalion," proposed by Lieutenant Holderness, responded to by Captain Smith, Lieutenants Finnis, Miller, and Johnston; "Other Branches of the Service,'! proposed by Colour-Sergeant Butcher, responded to by Captain Dougall (Engineers), Lieutenant Hume (Permanent. Artillery), SergeamV Major Berland (C.J£R.); "The Garrison Band," proposed by Captain and Adjutant Hobday, responded ito by Bandmaster Merton; "The Press ; *»rCaptam Charlewood," proposed by Jlajor .WoUe, responded to by Captain Charlewood:. During the evening songs were given by Captains Dougall and Charlewood, Lance-Corporal Davis, and Mr Petersen; recitations by Captain Smith and Mr Ryan, and a pianoforte solo by Corporal Shandley. .'- Parades of the CSty Guards and Cycling Corps were held last night, when the members .were exercisedOn physical drill. The former was under -lieutenant Bishop, and the latter under Finnis.
