Tho Mo-lei Yacht Club railed off the third heat for the Commodore's prize at Victoria Lake on Saturday. The wind .".was light from rthe south-west, and several times changed, making the sailing master's work very difficult. The competing boafa. were some of -the'best in the fleet, and considerable interest was aroused. The result was: —Mr Oakes's Emerald Isle, 1 ' Mason's Skipper,'2;-;?Mr Nightingale'sv'Sur-. prise, 3. The second class boats will sa.il next Saturday. In the corjt__.« between T. Barnes and J. Holland against W. Blackwell and G. Oram, in pair-oar and double sculling boats on the Whamakdriri for t_e Christchurch Regatta, the former crew won in two contests. The time-honoured fixture of the Christchurch Regatta, which has become to be regarded as the aquatic carnival of the year in Canterbury, if not in New Zealand, will be held on the Estuary, Sumner, on 'February 23rd. The"Course Committee have laid off an excellent course, and the various races may be viewed from start to finish from the many points of vantage close at hand. Mr J. S. Monck has a_*ain kindly placed his extensive grounds at the disposal of the committea, and the public will thus be enabled to take advantage of a pleasant afternoon's outing at the picturesque, spot, and at the same time to see some firstr class racing. ' The Tranvway Com- , pany have arranged for a complete service on the day of the Regatta, as, in view of the fae. that there will be a general holiday from noon, there is bound to be a very, large attendance. Entries, which are expected 'to be above the average in number, close with the secreiary, Mr F. D. Kesteven, on Wednesday.
