CHRISTCHURCH POLO CLUB.

The annual sprts and races in connection with the Cbxistclmrch Polo Club toot p!a\£ at Plumpton. Park on Saturday. Tlie threat ehing nature of the elements in the forvm i-n Avas, doubtless responsible for the* attendance being belojv that of former occ.is-on.s -he special train that left the civ at 1/5 being very 1 poorly patronised. The wea:her, f< rtunately. turned out- quite «":ie, m-.-i the gathering was a thoroughly en;oy.ible en- , . The Polo Cup went to Mr George Gould's Winsome— lianpily named, for she is a really handsome a#*,stylish mare. She won m a very pronoiheed manner, and in fast time, when the weight carried is considered. Frib, . who.went out favourite for the Cup, pulled up very yore. Winsome further demonstrated her goodness by carrying her owner to the front in the Handicap, making very considerable concessions in weight to all behind her. The dual success of Mr Gould's pony was very pogyjar. Mr Gould also won the Polo Ball ralre. The usually trusty Jack o . Lantern made a mistake in the Bending Race* allowing Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, on DuAab (Srambo. to score. Jack o' Liuitern, Ikowever, was the , leader in Mr Ileaton Rhcdes's tandem team .that, gained the award. Mr YV. H. Woodroffe, who has bejen a great acquisition to the Club, and who had nominations in most of the events, took the Changing Race, and the Hurdle race being reduced to a match between two of his entries, Mr Woodroffe it was that rode the winner, who outjumped his companion. The event that excites most interest- with the ladies, the Bracelet, was the last item, ajid this went to Miss Rliodes's nomination. Mr Wilfred Stoad, who rode"the winner, was very smart, bevth in his heatand in the final in vaulting into the saddle'and getting away, but the deftness of,his sifter ut her nait of the business conduced ""to the victory. Mr P. Campbell made-a very efficient starter, and the President (Mr G. Palmer) in the capacity of Clerk of the Course, kept the competitors up to time.
