At the sessions of the Supreme Court, Qeo* Henry Ennis, for embezzlement; was sentenced to two years; Valdemar Ericksen, for theft, was admitted to six months' probation, *--. and ordered to pay £5 towards the costs of , the prosecution. WELLINGTON, February 9. The case against Albert Whiskie, charged with attempted, assault on a girl at Malcombe, ended, after two. days' trial, in the acquittal of the accused. ■. ' . » GISBORNE, February 9. The Supreme Court sessions commenced to-day. The calendar is very light. In.the case of William Neilsen and James Madder, charged with breaking and entering, the former was acquitted. The latter pleaded - guilty to this and charges of tJioft and robbery, from..the and was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment, the sentence*, to be concurrent. • Henry Wilson pleaded guilty ftf breaking into the Albion Hotel and . stealing one shilling, and was sentenced to. nine months' imprisonment in the Auckland ga °' INVERCARGILL, February -9. Wm. Livingstone, aged twenty-one years, charged with a criminal assault on two girls, pleaded guilty to an indecent assault which, was accepted by the ■ Crown Prosecutor. ; It was urged for accused that he was weak minded, and that his father died in a lunatic asylum ', also that no physical injury wae done to the girls. Mr Justice Pennef ather said that a mans mental condition was'a good reason forriot inflicting corporal punishment, but was all the more reason -why society, should be saved from his presence. The accused was sentenced to four years' imprisonment on each charge, the sentence to be con-- * . current. The cattle-steaUng case - resulted in the conviction of H. Nicholls, senior and ' junior, and Mr Justice Pennefather sentenced the former to. twelve -months', and the sohj , previously convicted at'Timaru,. to eighteen months'imprisonment. , *
