CANTERBURY RAILWAYS.

I TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—ln your columns this morning, Mr Tobin has pointed out bow. unfairly Canterbury people are treated in the matter of train services, most districts having their four and five daily trains out and in, against twe-aiid three such trains on the Canterbury North and South main lines. (May I point out that in the matter of fares we are even worse treated-; '■•.Last' month the railway between t)ne Thames and 'Te Arolia was opened. , On - this line, which is 33 miles long, passengers booking to Auckland,- are; actually conveyed the double journey for nothing. -The return fares, Ist and 2nd class between Te Aroha, the former terminus of tffij line, jind Auckland, are 30s and 20s respectively,| and; sfrice the opening of the Thames extension;' pa*sengers booking at the former, .and at airy intervening stations, are conveyed to A'uck;. land and back for the above fares, in otner words, are carried double journey over the new line, 66 miles, for nothing. It is'to be hoped that .the Railway League will, lock into these matters. The sooner the public realise that things will never ; un better as long as our railways are managed as they are, the. better for the colony. I need hardly add that the Thames people have steadily supported the present' administration; nor remind your readers tnat a general election is not far off.—Yours, &c, N RAILWAY REFORM.
