AMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.

• The Amuri County Council met at Culverden.on Saturday, 4th inst. Present— Messrs D. Rutherford (chairman), A. W. Ruthsrford, J. H. Davison, W. -Thomson and A. Macfarlane. .f l Mr A. Barron, Assistant, EurvefrqrGeneral, wrote, stating that the} Government woujd contribute- £50 towards the repairs of the Acheron road if this County would undertake to put it in fairly good condition for traffic. The chairman stated that a labour gang had just completed the annual repairs to this road, and that it was now in very good order. Mr R. Meredith, M.H.R., forwarded letters from Dr. Macgregor and the Minister of Lands, in reference to the overlapping of the Christchurch and Wairau Charitable Aid Districts, and the Government grants for the Culverden, Hanmer Plains and the Molesworth reads respectively. It was resolved to write to the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board re the claim by the Wairau Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for a portion of contribution. The Awatere Road Board and Kaikoura County Council wrote relative - to the claims sent to them for their share of the cost of reconstructing the Lower Waiau bridge.. It was resolved to the whole question, re tne legality of this Council's claims against the other local bodies interested, to the Council's solicitors for their legal opinion. Mr F. Stephenson Smith, Government Engineer, having expressed the opinion that it would be unwise to do away with two spans of the Lower Waiau bridge as suggested, it was decided to act on Mr Smith's advice.
