RUGBY UNION.
A meeting of the Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union was held yesterday afternoon. Present —Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes (in the chair), J. C. Adams, G. Mason, H. Fro t, F. T. Evans, W. H. Meikleham, G. Scott and W. G. Garrard (hon..sec). A telegram was lead from the New Zealand Union, stating that the New Soulh Wales Union had cabled that the English team would not visit New Zealand. In view of that, and the message published in the evening papers that the tour had been abandoned, no further action was taken. The Secretary was instructed to try and ascertain if any Unions had paid money to any referees for loss of time, and also to write to a player in the past interprovincial match that it had never been the practice of the Union to allow expenses for the short journey he had to travel. The Committee were divided on the principle, which would, come before the general meeting. The annual meeting was fixed for Saturday,, March 25th, and Messrs Garrard, A*quith and Frost were appointed a committee to draft the annual report. (PRESS ASSOCIATION - TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, February 8. The Rusby Union has agreed to give the money asked if the English team does visit the colonies. They have adopted the proposed alterations in the rules, and given notice'of them to the New Zealand Rugby Union.
