SYDENHAM PARK.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—l regret to see that the Sydenham Council are taking steps to purchase the frontage of the Park for building purposes. The carrying out of this proposal is very, undesirable from my point of view. The Park would be hidden behind a lot of buildings.and be almost spoilt as a recreation ground. Where is the wisdom in surrounding such a useful reserve with backyards? I suggest to the Council that, instead of carrying out their present intention, ornamental iron railings be substituted for the old fence now standing. This would be a decided improvement from an asthetic point of view. The Council should devote a little more expense to beautifying the Park, instead of practically destroying the only recreation ground we have.—Yours, &c -, , ■ • SYDENHAM. Pound road, Sydenham, January 27th, 1899.
