WATER SUPPLY BOARD.
An informal meeting of the WaimakaririAshley Water Supply Board was held on Thursday, J_=_iuarv 26th, the principal business being the discussion and partial framing of by-laws in connection with the Water Supply of the Brown's Rock subdivision. It was decided that the "main race" comprise the length from the head works to the S.W. boundar- of Reserve 1186 on the upper head race, and from the junction with that race as far as Poyntz's road on the lower head race. The treasurer was instructed to prepare a tabular statement showing the areas of land at certain specified valuations per acre. The engineer reported that he had inspected the Upper Eyre flume and other flumes on the main race. The Eyre flume was leaking badly, and required tarring, and other temporary flumes required renewing. He also reported that protective works at the Wakn_kariri at the head works would be required, and estimated that an extra amount of £200 would be necessary. , The ordinary meeting of the Board was he!d on Thursday, 2nd inst. A letter from the Beard's solicitor was received asking for the amount of judgment in the case of Sloane v Thomas and the Board, £86 4s 3d. In forwarding the cheque it was resolved that Mr Fisher be informed that the Board paid the costs in the case under protest, and referred to him the question of obtaining the amount from Thomas. The list of properties in the Cooper's Creek subdivision, arrived at in consultation with the collector, and submitted to the Board for approval by the member for the district, for special rating for the current year, was approved, and to have immediate effect.
The engineer reported that he had obtained the approval of the Chief Surveyor, Christchurch, to the plans and specifications for works being carried out under the £500 Government gran£, and that a voucher had already been forwarded to Wellington by the Chief Surveyor I'or the payment of £463 7s 6d.
A special meeting of the Board was then held, the business being to adopt a resolution ordaining a by-law for the Brown's Rock subdivision of the district. After a lengthy consideration and discussion the rates and charges and by-law were framed, and on the proposal of Mr Dalley, seconded by Mr Dixon, it was unanimously resolved —"That the foregoing resolution, when confirmed as a special order, take effect immediately upon the confirmation thereof. The meeting terminated after passing accounts to the amount of £380.
