NOTES AND MEMORANDA.
The plan of the reserved seats for the inauguraJ production of the Maggie MooreH. R. Roberts' season, which commences on Saturday next at the Theatre Royal, will be opsnod this morning at ■Messrs Milner and Thompson's. The annual meeting of the Permanent Investment and Loan Association will be held en Monday, February 13th, in the Chamber of Commerce Hall, at 4 p.m., to receive the directors' report, elect directors and auditors, &c. The next term of the School of Art will commence on Monday, February 13th. r The entries for the catalogue of the next local wool sale close to-day. As will be seen by notification elsewhere the little ones have' not been forgotten in connection with the Lyttelton Catholic picnic, which takes place 'next Thursday. The charge for their trip by the John Anderson is only sixpence. There are now on view for a few days at Messrs McCormick and Pugh's, Colombo street, some very interesting sketches showing the wild scenery of the Chatham Islands. The artist, Mr C. Bickerton, deserves great credit for the able way he has reproduced some extremely difficult subjects. The sketches illustrate admirably the rough and rom—Qtic character of those islands. The Rakaia Swimming Club's annual sports are to be held on the 16th inst., and entries close at the Clarendon Hotel, Christchurch, or with the Club's Secretary, at Rakaia, on the 9th inst. To maintain the interest in bowling caused by the tournament,. Mr Skelton, President of the Canterbury Bowling Club, has presented two handsome gold medals to be competed for in doubles by tbe members. Air E. C. Ashby, the President of the Association, has presented a handsome aneroid barometer to be competed for in singles. Tbe entries close on Saturday, and the handicaps will be arranged and play commence on Monday next.
The livery stable employees and cabmen are to hold their annual picnic on the 16th February.
