—. — » _- LEAGUE OF NEW ZEALAND WHEELMEN. The Executive Committee of the New Zealand League of Wheelmen met at the Clarendon Hotel last night. A letter was received from Mv Jos. Muir. the secretary ol the Wanganui Champkvnship Committee, asking that tho League's official representative's name should be wired, and stating that a smoke concert would be held for the presentation of med.ds. and asking that the League should bear a sluue of the expense. Mr W. 14. Atnck was appointed the League's representative to the meeting, and the sum of £10 10s was voted as his expenses. It was decided to accept the responsibility for a third of the loss on the smoke concert. Mr Robt. Anderson, League Consul at Wanganui, wrote, resigning the position. The Wanganui Bicycle Club wrote, nominating Mr T. H. J:\nics to the position of Consul. The matter was held over until further infornKiticn was available. The Half Mile Amateur Cl__ipionskip was granted to the Ellesmero C.C. for its meeting on Easter Monday. The Tapanui C.C. wrote, asking for a permit for a small meeting on the 22nd inst. It was decided to granti a special permit, subject to tho entry money being reduced to 5 per cent, of the prize nioney. The question of a permit for the Pioneer Bicycle Club's fortnightly meetings was discussed, and Mr Good was deputed ,to point out to the Club that the League wis averse to allowing gate money to be charged.' A discussion took place over the clashing of dates for the Wellington and Port Nicholson Clubs' cycle meetings. The permit to the Port Nicholson Club for March 4th was confirmed, and the secretary was instructed to notify the Wellington Club that the date had been reserved for the other club. The Wellington Cycle Club wrote, appointing Mr A. C. Norris as local Consul, and the Port Nicholson Club wrote, nominating Mr F. B. Wilkins to the position. It was resolved to appoint Mr Norris. The question of permanent offices was discussed, and Messrs Atack, Good and the chairman were appointed a committee to go into tiie n—,tter and report.
A cycling match, that excited considerable interest, took place at Lancaster Park yesterday. The contestants were Mr M. Barnett, the well-known bookmaker, and Mr J. Esliek, <s—e latter conceding 100 yards in a mile. Mr Barnett was never approached, and won by 50 yards in 2min 59sec.
