The undoubted popularity with Christoburch playgoers of the charming play "Under , "the Red Robe" was proved undoubtedly by the large audience which assembled Jast night: at the Theatre Royal on its third representation.- The piece went splendidly irom first' to last. The success which has attended "Under the Bed Kobe! , ', has induced the jrfanagefnent .to play it for an additional night, this evening. That romantic and thrilling play, "The Prisoner of Zeada," is to be produced to-morrow evening foe one night only. The popularity" of this piece should draw a large audience. A meeting of the,newly-fonned Lancashire Society was held at the office of Mr G. W. Hulme last night, Mr E. Smithurst presiding. Mr Hulme intimated that Mr John Riley had presented several book* and punphJeta dealing with, Lancashire life and character to the Society. A vote of thanks wes accorded to Mr Riley for hie gift The following officers were elected:—President, Mr T. C. Gibbs; vice-presidents, Messrs E. Smithurst, 8.-Pilkington, £. Bellhouse and Seed; trustees, Messrs Seed, and Rhodes; treasurer, Mr John Clegg; secretary, Mr G. W. Hulme; committee, Messrs J. Rhodes, Morton, Cleworth, J. Watkin, H. Croasdale, Wilkinson, and Slator. The remainder of the evening was spent in the relating erf stories of the parent county. The quarterly social in connection with the Papanui Abolition League was held in St. Paul's schoolroom on Tuesday evening. About 140 people were present. The Rev. A. B. Chappell presided. Addresses were delivered by Mfcs Roberta, Rev. T. H. Lyqo, and Mr Lawrence, and songs and recitations given by Mrs Ford, Mieiee Fuller and Reith
