(FBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAMS.) NEW PLYMOUTH, January 5. The customs duties collected at the Port of New Plymouth, in 1898, amounted to £19,045, compared with £17,327 in 1897. The exports for the year, including Waitara, amounted to £332,672. WELLINGTON, January 5. The civil business transacted at the local Magistrate's Court in the-last twelve months was in excess of that of the previous year. In 1898 3622 plaints were entered, and 2752 cases tried. Figures for previous year were 3206 and 2547. The aggregate amount sued for last year was £45,392, and of this £24,866 was recovered, as compared with £35,312 sued for in 1897 and £13,646 recovered. WESTPORT, January 5. Following was the output of coal in the Buller district for the year 1898: —Westport Coal Company, 289,120 tons 12 cwt. ; Cardiff Coal Company, 60,072 tons 12 cwt., making a total of 349,193 tons 4 cwt. The West-, port Coal Company's increase, as compared with last year, was 36,502 tons* 4 cwt.; and that of the Cardiff Company 6000 tons. DUNEDIN, January 5. Alexander Wilson and Robert Gillies were fined £5 each and costs for falsely representing themselves as travellers, and inducing the licensee of. the Provincial Hotel to serve them during prohibited hours. This is the outcome of last week's prosecution.
