The Mayor of Lambton, near Newcastle, has notified the public that the municipality will be in darkness after Sunday, owing to financial difficulties. (Lambton is five miles north of Newcastle, and 103 miles north of Sydney. The population is about 5000. Coalmining is the industry of the district.)
