CYCLING.
The opening run of the Pioneer Bicycle Olub took place on Thursday, and was very - successful, about forty riders taking part. Two quads, one triplet, and several tandems were in the gathering. After the inevitable . photo, had been taken, a start was made for Yaldhursfc, Mr R. Mason having invited the members of the club to inspect Mr G. G. Staad's splen/ird racing stables. After . the inspection; dinner was served, and the toast list disposed of. This included the usual loyal toasts, " The P.8.0V," "The Trade," " The Officers of the Olub," " The Ladies," &c. A very pleasant evening was spent, and the party arrived in town shortly after 11 p.m. The New Brighton School Committee met on Monday evening. Present — Messrs; Winny (chairman), Pattrick, Pine, Paton, Moor and Hawker. An apology was received from Mr Owles. The inspectors' report pointed out some weak points in the f school work,.but on the* whole the report was deemed to Be very satisfactory, and a vote of thanks to the teaching staff was recorded. It was decided ,to hold several entertainments for the school prize* fund, the first to take place on Friday, October 21st. .
