In (lie course of a lecture in Sydney, on the "iloiiuiiV Gardens," Mr J. H. Maiden, the directoi. brought under the notice of the audience, by means of a magic lantern view, one of th« curiosities of the establishment— the willing trt-e. The fond superstition attachin,: I" this was that if jicople walked round it three times—there seemed some 'different of (minion whether the perambulation shmiid be frontwise or backwards and then wished, their wishes would be gratified. Mr Maiden said young men and young wt.incii were often to be observed going through this interesting little triple they thought that nobody was watching.
