ORGAN RECITAL.
Last evening an organ recital was given by Mr G. F. Tendall at the Christchurch Cathedral, in aid of the choir and music library fund. The Cathedral was crowded. Mr Tendall played a fine Pastorale by Kullak skilfully. The four movements of Handel's Concerto in G were equally well played, especially the tempestuous adagio and the slow, melodious andante movements. Mr Tendall also played Beethoven's Andante fiom "Quintett, in E Flat," Griegs interesting Marche Hcroique, a lovely Reverie ot Stainer's, Sterntlale Bennett's Barcarolle, an allegro movement by Lemmens, and a musical andante movement from Mozart's Quintett in C Minor. The conditions, owing to the closeness of the evening, were not favourable to clearness of tone, but this was very slightly noticeable in tho lower notes of the opening Pastoral. Mi's Howie, who was in excellent voice, sang "Evening" and " Prayer" from the " Golden Legend" (Sullivan) \ery artistically. Her rich mezzo soprano voice is eminently suited to sacred music. Mrs Burns sang the air " Like as a father pitieth his children" (Cowen) sweetly and with considerable power. These two ladies also sang the difficult but beautiful duet, "O Lovely Peace" (Handel), with great success.
