! "Little Lord Fattntleroy" was again successfully presented at the Theatre Royal last night by the Constance Hardie Dramatic Company. The audience was appreciative and large, though not so numerous as the merits of the play and the company deserve. The same programme will be repeated to-night, and to-morrow will be succeeded by " The Silver King." At the meeting of the St. John's Literary Association on Monday evening, the gentlemen provided the programme. Songs were contributed by Messrs R. and H. Hobbs, R. Vincent and H. Caro ; Air F. Page gave a recitation and Mr E. Pegg a bone solo. Dancing also had a place in the programme. An enjoyable card match was held on Friday evening by members of the V. aikuku Social Society. The weekly meeting of the Papanui Mutual Improvement Society took place on Alonday evening. An interesting lecture on " Love, Courtship and Marriage " was given by the Rev. Mr Lee. At the annual recitation and singing competition at Woodend on Monday evening, in connection with the Wesleyan.Band of Hope, the awards were : — Recitations, class I.—Girls, Clarice Pateman 1, Winnie Bill 2 ; boys, W. Alfred Judson 1, Charles Petrie 2. Class ll.—Girls, Ethel Ayers 1, Flossie Gill 2; boys, Claude Pateman 1, Edwin Chambers 2. Class lll.—Girls, Jane Chambers 1, Maud Griffin 2 ; boys, Walter Burnett 1, Robert Coulter 2. Class IV.— Girls, Marion Catchpole 1. Eliza Judson 2; boys, Fredrick Chambers 1, Walter Tinkler 2. Class ll.—Elliot Winsloe 1, Mary Smith 2. A Gospel temperance meeting was held in the Lower High street Methodist Sunday school on Thursday. This was the first of a series of meetings to be held in different parts of the city and suburbs by the Women's Christian Temperance Union. The speakers were Rev. F. W. Isitt and Mr Holland, and there was a programme of music and recitations. The anniversary services in connection with the Greendale Baptist Sunday School were preached on Sunday by the Rev. A. S. Harris, of Lincoln, to large congregations. On Monday evening the usual tea and public meeting took place, at which addresses were delivered by the Rev. Messrs North and Harris and Messrs G. Holland and J. F. Rudd. At the annual meeting of the Mandeville Cricket Club the following were elected officers :—President, Mr J. Winter ; viceS residents, Messrs R. W. Chapman, T. urgin, and R. Atkinson; captain, Mr W. McHugh ; sub-captain, R. Ward ; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Winter; selection committee, Messrs F. Doidge, D. McGregor, W. McHugh, R. Ward andH. Winter. W. McHugh and R. Ward were appointed delegates to the North Canterbury Association. At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Benevolent Lodge of Oddfellows, Bros. J. M. Conway, P.G., and H. G. Manning, N.G., were appointed delegates at the halfyearly meeting at Kaikoura on the 14th September. A social was held at the Primitive Methodist Church last night in connection with the re-opening of the church building., Mr H. Holland was in the chair. An address was delivered by the Rev. D. McNicoll, his subject being " Soul Improvement." The musical portion of the programme consisted ot songs by Misses Wilson and Bntterworth and of anthems by the choir. There were also recitations by Mrs Pedlerand Miss Reynolds. Refreshments were handed round.
