''.''.. 4 - \ Larceny.—Robert Simpson pleaded not , guilty to a oharge»of stealing a coat, value i about 15., the property of W. J. Gilmour. \ The evidence of W. J. Gilmour and Con-; ] etable Connell showed that the former j missed his coat on August 18th, and the i coat was found in accused's swag on August ■ 29th. Accused first said that the coat was \ his, and afterwards that' he found the coat. In answer to the Ben.h accused said he picked the coat up in one of the streets, Sergeant Ru .ledge said that the accused, when arrested; had no food or means of any kind. The accused was sent to gaol for a fortnight. Vagrancy.—Richard Falvey waa charged with being an idle and disorderly person, and having no lawful visible means of support. Constable Connell deposed that the accused had been sleeping in railway trucks and had done no work for weeks. Constable Hastie gave similar evidence. Accused said he had tried every ship to get employment. He was a sailor and had been discharged at Oamaru, where he had been in the hospital for thirteen weeks. He was sent to gaol for a week, with hard labour.
