WAIMATE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Waimate County Council met on Wednesday. Present — Messrs Elworthy (chairman), Rhodes, Douglas, Lyall, Murphy, Walker and Stud hoi mc. The Department of "Lands and Survey, Christchnrch, wrote stating that if the land for Clement's road had been bought with the £150 Government grant, the land should be vested in the Crown. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Minister of Lands, drawing his attention to his former letter on thef subject, when he agreed to the Council adopting any course as long as the £150 was not exceeded. The New Zealand Counties' Association notified that a meeting of delegates would be held in Wellington on 12th August. The Chairman was appointed to represent this Council. Mr H. D. Bell (Wellington) submitted his opinion on the Hospital trustees question, and the South Canterbury Charitable Aid Board sent a further opinion of Messrs Perry and Kinnerney traversing the ground covered by Mr Bell in his argument. The Chairman was authorised to give his opinion to the South Canterbury Charitable Aid Board on the proposed bill to be drafted by Messrs Perry and Kinnerney. Resolutions were passed striking the county rate at 11-16ths d in the £ and Timaru Harbour rate |d in the £. The Overseer was authorised to spend any sum not exceeding £100 on repairs to the road between Clarkesficld and Sandhurst. The tender for contract 322 of R. White, £117 12s 6d, was accepted. Mr P. J. Murphy's resignation as member of the Council was accepted with regret.
