THE BARQUE FIDO.

Speaking of the Fido, the supposed loss of which was cabled from Sydney last week, the Auckland " Herald " says .:—" The Fido was formerly under the Norwegian flag, and, waswpurchased about a year ago by Captain Morrison on behalf ot himself and a Sydney firm, and was placed in the trade between Auckland, Kaiapara, Sydney and Newcastle, bringing a cargo of coal to this port, and then proceeding to Kaipara, and loading timber for Sydney. She was built at Arendal, Norway, in 1876, by C. H. Christensen, and was of the following dimensions:— Length, 141.6 ft; beam, 30.9 ft; depth, 17.4 ft; tonnage, 536. The 7 Fido, was a wooden barque, .and made one or two trips in the intercolonial trade before she was purchased by Captain Morrison. The barque last visited Auckland in February last, when she brought a cargo of coal from Newcastle for the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, and the vessel left Auckland for Kaipara on February 14tb, where she took in a cargo of timber for Sydney, and on discharge proceeded to Newcastle, where she loaded coal for this port, sailing on May sth.' The day the barque left Newcastle a fearful gale raged rlong the New South Wales coast, during which many vessels suffered disaster, including the barque Crown of India, which wss dismasted, but was fortunately picked up and towed into Sydney, after a most perilous experience. Captain Morrison was well known all over New Zealand, he having been master of a number of vessels engaged in tbe intercolonial trade l for a number of years. He has a wife and family residing in Sydney.
