AMERICA AND SPAIN.
THE BOMBARDMENT OP SANTIAGO. MANILA SURROUNDED BY THE REBELS. FIERCE FIGHTING DAILY. United Prets Association—By Electric TelegraphCopyright. Received June Bth, 9.20 a m. Hong Kong, June 7. Admiral Dewey reports that the arsenal at Cavite, which was captured by the Americans in the recent battle, has been restored, and is ready for occupation. The insurgents, he says, captured 1800 Spanish soldiers and fifty officers. Aguanaldo, the insurgent leader in the Philippines, has completely surrounded Manila, and fierce fighting takes place daily between the besiegers and besieged. Admiral Dewey is using his influence to restrain making a final assault on the city until the arrival of American troops. ■ He fears that should an assault be made by the rebels alone, there would be many barbarities inflicted on the inhabitants.
