Mails close for the following places as under, subject to the /necessary alterations :— MONDAY, MAY 23. For Northern Ports, per Herald, at 1.45 p.m. ; late fee letters, 2 p.m. ; guard's van, 2.45 p m. train. For Akaroa, per Taupo, at 3 p.m. ; late fee letters, 3.15 p.m. ; guard's van, 4 p.m. train. * For Northern Ports, per Penguin, at 3 p.m. ; late fee letters, 3.15 p.m. ; guard's van, 4 p.m. train. For Northern Ports, Westport, Australian Colonies, India, China, Japan, South Africa, &c, also United Kingdom, Continent of Europe, kc, specially addressed, via Suez (due London July sth), per Talune, at 6.25 p.m. ; late fee letters, 6.40 p.m. ; guard's van, 7.45 p.m. train. For Northern Ports, per Rotomahana, at 8 p.m. THURSDAY, MAY 26. For .Northern Ports of New Zealand and Westport, Fiji, Hawaiian Islands, and United Kingdom, Continent of Europe, &c, also United States, Canada, British Columbia, &c. (via Vancouver), per Rotomahana, at 7.45 p.m.; late fee letters, 8 p.m.; gua-'d's van, 9.15 p.m. train. For money orders at 4 p.m., registered letters atss p.m., newspapers, books, &c, at 7.30 p.m. Due Vancouver June 16th, and due London June 29th. 'Mails for South Africa leave Melbourne on 2nd June. Mails for Fiji close at Auckland 4 p.m. 21st May. ' * Mails for Tonga, Samoa and Fiji, per Taviuni, close at Auckland Ist June, 4 p.m. Mails for South America, United Kingdom, &c, per Gothic, at Lyttelton, May 26th; due London July 10th. Mails for Australian Colonies, also United Kingdom, kc, via Suez, close per Tarawera at Auckland, Monday, at 7 p.m. Mails for Cromarty, Puysegur Point, kc, per Invercargill, close at Invercargill, j Thursday, at 2.30 p.m.
QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY POST OFFICE HOLIDAY. Tuesday, 24th instant, will be observed as a close holiday. Mails for despatch that day will be closed on Monday, at 8 p.m., at the Chief Post Office. A counter delivery of letters Will be made between 8.30 and 9.30 p.m. on Monday. R; KIRTON, Chief Postmaster.
