NOTES AND MEMORANDA.

The weekly *.' korero" of the Christchurch Savage Club will be held this evening in the hall of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. Ravage H. R. Webb will be in the chair. "-' * A Christian Convention will be hold in the V.M.C.A. rComs to-morrow. The first meeting will be from 11 a.m. toi p.m., next 2.30. In the evening the meeting will be held at 7.30 in the Trinity Congregational Church ; subject " Missions," The speakers will be Rev. W. Scorgie, Messrs Robertson, Strong and Arnott. A cantata, entitled "Jonah," has been composed by Mr J. Pooley, and is at present being rehearsed by the St. Mary's Church choir and friends at Addington. The music is said to be both pretty and dramatic, and a successful "performance is looked forward to. The performance is in aid of the choir fund. An attractive entertainment is to be held in St. Mark's schoolroom," Opawa, on Monday, the 30th ins!. The first part consists of musii by some of our leading musicians. In the second part the sparkling comedietta " Breaking the Ice" will be given. The proceeds are devoted to paying interest on the schoolroom debt. To-morrow the Jane Douglas will ran a cheap excursion to Pigeon Bay, leaving Lyttelton on the arrival of the quarter to nine train from Christchurch. The John Anderson will run a cheap trip to Diamond Harbour and Purati on the arrival of each train from Christchurch. Messrs Agar and Thomas will run excursion trips to Governoi's Bay by the Canterbury and Waiwera at short intervals tomorrow. The re-appearance -of Madame Amy Sherwin at the Opera Houre to-night is a musical event which should be an occasion when a gathering of all lovers .of music should take place; The programme is one which ought to attract, as it is popular to a degree.. Ma'dame's items will be the celebrated polacca from "Mignon," two of Schubert's songs, " The Lost Chord" and "Who's at mv window?" Mi«s Grindlay will sing "11 Segreto," a new song, "The Guiding Light; " "When all was youtio;," " Caller Herrin' " and " Whu&tle and I'll came to ye my "lad.". Mr Zelman will play violin soli, including the andante and finale from Mendelssohn's concerto in E minor, and Mr Stoneham will play flute solos. There will only be two concerts, viz., tonight and to-morrow, as arrangements have been made for Madame's appearance on Thursday in Dunedin. At the Choral Hall to-morrow niijlit the concert in aid of the Friendly f-ocieties' Benevolent Fund will be given. Mrs Howie and Mr Millar, together with other vocalists and instrumentalists, will take part in the progiamme, which includes several other attractive numbers. The annual meeting of the Chrysanthemum Society will be held this evening at eight o'clock, at the Agricultural and Pastoral Association's rooms, Hereford street, when the prizes will be distributed, the annual report and balance-sheet read and officers elected. Elsewhere notice is given of the polling day and polling places for the poll of ratepayers in the_ Brown's Rock subdivision of the district on the question of the special loan of —3000 to complete the Brown's Rock water supply scheme. The annual ball of the bakers will be held in Hobbs's buildings to-night. The arrangements for running on the Queen's Birthday on the lines of tbe Christchurch Tramway Company appear elsewhere. On the Ferry road and Sumner lines trams will run each way every hour from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Arrangements for the other lines will be found notified. Mr John Fuller. Myriorama will appear to-morrow afternoon and evening at the Theatre Royal. Iv the afternoon pictures of the life of Queen Victoria will lie displayed, ancl merry items, such as "Robinson. Cru--__," " AJi'ldin," kc, will be produced for the amusement of the youngsters. For the evening a patriotic programme has been arranged, commencing, with the "National An"- -*•," during w'u >h photographs of the Qaeen at different periods of her life will be displayed. Besides the Queen's life Britannia's Bulwarks will be depicted by some of the largest and fasic*it of the first-class battleships afloat, while visits to Her Majesty's homes will, at this juncture, be interesting. Many of the songs will be and the humorous element will be represented by various items.
