THE SILVERSTREAM MURDERER.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM).

WELLINGTON, March 22,

Both papers have published statements alleging that the convict Philpott had broken down and was showing extreme signs of fear, but these are now said to be incorrect. The man strenuously protests his innocence and remains calm and patient.

The statement was made this afternoon that Philpott had confessed to the murder of Hawthorne, but it is not confirmed. The statement came from good authority, but the Minister of Justice has no knowledge of any confession, and tho authorities generally are reticent on the subject.

(FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRE3PONDENT.) WELLINGTON, March 22. I have authority for saying that Philpott has made a confession, which leaves no doubt of his guilt. He will be executed at eight to-morrow morning.
