THE WEATHER.
A fierce nor'-wester blew in ChrietohurcL and throughout the district yesterday; indeed, it appears to have been experienced over a great part of the colony. The principal effect of the gale so far as Christchurch was concerned was the interruption it caused in tbe telegraphic service. A number of poles were levelled down south, and northwards at different times the wires were all in contact.
(PI|ESS ASSOCIATION TKUCOBAMS.) WELLINGTON, March 21. Tbe equinoctial gales are blowing this autumn with even more than usual severity. For some time the weather has been alternately wet aod windy, and the drought having quite broken up, the hills are looking green once more. A furious northerly gale has been blowing alt day, one the most violent of a particularly windy season, and some destruction to windows has been caused. Rain is now setting in again. INVERCARGILL, March 21. The weather ia again bad. Gales and heavy showers of hail and rain hare stopped the harvesting. A considerable area of grain crops is very backward.
