MINING NEWS.

(FROM OCB OWN COKRESPOKDEKT.) LONDON, February 12. The Directors of the Waihi Gold Mining Company have declared a dividend of 2s per share on the old shares and at the rate of 5 per cent, on the new shares, payable on Ist March, free of income tax.

My latest news from the City ie that there sceme some revival of interest in New Zealand mines, and that Kauri Freehold shares have a distinctly upward tendency.

The report of the Tai Tapu Gold Estates Company ehowe that, including money due to the Company, par value of shares still in Company's hands, and cash in bank, the Company has about £55,000 in hand, and the Directors consider it will shortly be in poeaession of ample funds for all purposes. Reference ie made to Mr J. Coutte'i resignation of the general managership and the appointment of Mr R. Hursthouse as his euccesaor on Mr G. Beetham's recommendation. Mr Beetham's valuable services to the company in New Zealand are cordially acknowledged. Regret is expressed that Mr Beetham and Mr Coutts, on the score of economy, ceased development work at the Golden Ridge and had not resumed it, in spite of the desire cabled by the directors that this should be done, as they were anxious to know further of the character and richness of the Golden Ridge reef. It is remarked that the reports as to the Golden Ridge Mine vary, and the directors cay that, while they have no reason to doubt the honesty of all the estimates and reports, they are not in a position to judge between the parties. They consider that great credit is duo to Mr Hursthouse for very successful arrangements made in moat difficult circumstances.

The third ordinary meeting of the Taitapu Gold Estates Company will be held on Friday. Mr G. Beetham is the retiring director and the directors state that " aa he hmi been in New Zealand daring the whole of the last year, and it is quite uncertain when he will return, it is not proposed to re-elect him." Mr T. Harrison Davis has retired from the Board, and Mr H. 0. Parkes is jiiioHl u> do so alfco. It is proposed to fill up the vacancies by the election of Messrs W. C. Stronge and J. Al. Prillevitz. The flii ectors remark, "The Hon. J. B. Whyte did nob join the Board."
