The Gladstone wharf at Lyttelton has not for a long time had so busy an appearance as it has now, where moored alongside are the schooner Huia, and the barques Blenheim, Charles Racine, Dilpussund and Larlei. The Charles Racine, which made a remarkably quick passage from New York to Dunedin, arrived in Port late on Thursday night. Captain MoLellan piloted her from Dunedin.

The barque Lurlei arrived from Hobart yesterday forenoon. She brings part of her original cargo from New York. Ihe Tokomaru sailed yesterday for Timaru, where she takes in more cargo. The Hinemoa sailed for Wellington on Thursday evening. The Wakatipu arrived from Dunedin yesterday morning, an<J sailed for Wellington and Sydney in the evening. The Talune arrived from Wellington yesterday morning, and sailed for Dunedin and Melbourne iv the evening. The position of fourth engineer on the Government steamer Tutanekai, rendered vacant by the promotion of Mr Sinclair to third, has been filled by the appointment of Mr S. Luke, son of the late Mr Samuel Luke (states the Neto Zealand Times). Mr Luke, -who is a nephew of the present directors of the firm of that name, served his time in their foundry, and has only been out of his apprenticeship for a year. Lieutenant Thomas R. Free, R.N.R., commander of the R.M.S. Miowera, which left for Vancouver on Saturday last, does not intend returning after the voyage to Vancouver is completed, as urgent business calls him to England. CaptainFree's future movements are uucertain, but he hopes to pay another visit to Australia at the end of the present year.
