Betting: 9 to 4 agst St. Brie, 75 to 20 Keenan, 7 to 1 Count Schomberg, 100 to 3 Asterie: At the mile post Harvest Money continued to hold the command from S*mbre, with Orange Lily, who was nearest in pursuit, possessed of a slight advantage from Ashburn, Don Alonzo, and Asterie. This trio, in a cluster, were closely "waited upon by St. Bris, followed at intervals by Keenan, Count Schomberg, and The Rush. The next quarter of a mile saw Ashbnrn suddenly drop into the rear, and with Asterie at the same time depriving Harvest Money of the lead, they were pursued by Sainbre, Don Alonzo, and St. Bris, next to whom came Wharfe, Keenan, Count Schomberg, Orange Idly, and The Bush. Sailing along in fine etyle, Aeterie turned into the straight four or five lengths ahead of St. Bris. The favourite was followed by Wharfe, Don Alonzo, Keenan, Sambre, and Count Schomberg, of whom the American horee h»d so far never travelled too kindly. Although St. Bris reduced the advantage of Asterie to a couple of lengths a quarter of a mile from home, this was only done under pressure, and below the distance he had been passed by Don Alonzo and joined by Wharfe. They raced together for a few more strides, when both St. Brie and Wharfe gave way, and with Keenan now making a show on the left, he gradually gave them the go-by. All that he could do, however, was to get on terms with Don Alonzo, and keeping up her swing to the end, Asterie won by. five lengths, Keenan beating Don Alonzo by a neck for second place. St. Brit was a moderate fourth. Time, by Benson's chronograph, 3miu Bfsec. Value of the stakes, £1375.
