THE BUSH FIRES.
His Worship the Mayor and Mrs Louieeon are inviting the attendance of ladies willing to assist the Bush Fires Relief Committee, to be held in the Mayor's room to-morrow afternoon. The entertainment Committee, in connection with the Bush Fire Relief Fund, are communicating with the Governor asking fur the patronage and presence of his Excellency, Lady Ranfurly, and suite, at the entertainments projected in aid of the fund. In response to the request of the Entertainment Committee, his Worship the Mayor has consented to preside at the lecture on " Nansen ar.d the Farthest North," to be given on Tuesday next in the Art Gallery. The lecture is in aid of the fund now being raised for the relief of the fufferers by the Oxford and Birch Hill fires. His Worship the Mayor has received the following additional subscriptions towards the Bush Fires Relief Fund :—JK. Hiorns, £1 Is; De Vines, £1 Is; W. H. Hargreaves, £3 3s ; City Surveyor and Employees of the City Council, £4; J. Molloy, £1 10s. The Council of the Art Society have very kindly placed the Art Gallery at the disposal of the Entertainment Committee of the Bush Fire Relief Fund free of charge for Mr Collins's lecture on Tuesday. The Estudiantina Club last night decided to offer the services of their band in aid of the sufferers by the Oxford and Birch Hill fires. The Hon. W. Hall-Jones was a passenger with Messrs Meredith and Moore, M.H.R.'s, to Oxford by last evening's train. He returns to town to-morrow. The Sydenham Brass Band will play a programme of music in the band rotunda under Bandmaster Mr W. F. MeLean, tomorrow night, starting at eight o'clock. A collection in aid of the Oxford and Birch Hill Relief Fund will be taken by the band.
