CHRISTCHURCH.' Monday, January 2*f. (Before T. York and J. C. Atkinson, Esqs., J.P.'s.) Drunkenness.—Joseph Wilkinson, James Candlish and two first offenders were each fined 5s and costs for this offence. Indecency.—Mary Ann Brandon, charged with committing a grossly indecent act in a public place, was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment with hard labour. Obscene Language. — Lucy Weston, charged with using obscene language, who was before the Court some time ago on a similar charge, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour. (Before R. Beetham, Esq., S.M.) Civil Cases.—Judgment was by default in the following cases:—M. Harris v J. J. Berne, claim £12 0s 3d ; H. Hill v A. Shearsby, claim £13; Roland Heinberger v Andrew P. Izett, claim £5 18a 3d ; Butler Brothers v C. S. Angus, claim £11 19s 3d ; Ballantyne and Co. v W. and M. Langdon, claim £23 7s 6d; W. H. Tubman vH. J. Tisch, claim £2 103. In the case of Hodd and Hodd v P. O'Brien, Mr Kippenberger for plaintiffs, Mr Raphael for defendant, claim £79 4b, an order was mode on the ground that the debtor's ability to pay had been proved ; in default three months' imprisonment. E. Mace (Mr Johnston) v Steggall claim £5 16s. An order was made for the payment of £4 8s forthwith, in default two weeks' imprisonment.
