SYDENHAM.

The Sydenham Council met last evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr J. Forrester), and Crs. Jacques, Bell, Manhire, Large, Hirtzell, Laflerty, Muffett, Hadfield, Taylor, Murray and Cutler. It was decided to oomply with the Tramway Company's request to water their portion of the Linooln road and , charge them with the eont. A letter was read from the Gas Company, asking if there was any probability of the Council increasing to any extent the number of lamps on the company extending lines of mains. The matter was referred to the Lighting Committee. The superintendent ot the Railway Fire Brigade reported that there had been five fires in the borough during the half-year ended December 31st. A letter was received from the secretary of the Oxford and Birch Hill relief fund, asking for assistance, and it was resolved that subscriptions would be received at the Council office. The Works and Sanitary Committee recommended the public road leading to the «outh-east corner of the cemetery being opened up and cleared of gorae, and that a week's notice be given to terminate the tenancy of the recreation reserve. The report was adopted. The Finance Committee reported receipts —General account £436 13e 2d, interest account £63 Os 4d, separate accounts £201 2s 9d, total £700 16a 3d. Payment of accounts were recommended to the amount of £153 17s 2d. The report was adopted. It was resolved that the Postmaster at Chrietchurch be asked to include Montreal street in the Sydenham central delivery.
