The Government have decided to grant Detective Henderson a Magisterial enquiry, which will take place in Christchurch at an early date. I hear from an hon. member that yesterday Mr John M'Kenzie stated in the lobbies that there would be a dissolution before twelve months are over, and that he would not be here to see it.

There are eight telephone exchanges in the colony that have less than a hundred subscribers. Of these only three show a balence of revenue over expenditure, viz., Ashburton £100, Greymouth £16 and Timaru £58. A return presented to Parliament, on the motion of Mr Hone Heke, shows that eighteen Native boys have been apprenticed to various trades since the inauguration of the system of apprenticeship of Native boys in 1882, viz., four to blacksmiths, five to saddlers, two to carpenters, five to farmers, two to printers.
