SOUTH CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB'S SPRING MEETING.

Second Day. Delightful weather prevailed for the second day of the above meeting, and the attendance was again good. Back era were well ou the mark, as in every instance the first or second favourite prevailed, and the bast dividend was the four guineas paid out ou Marlin, who appropriated the principal event on the card very easily. The investments on the totalisator for the day reached JE1950 10s, uiid for. tho meeting £4015 10s. This is £3j£> less than the total put through last spring, but when it is remembered the Club i-eeeived £66 for bookmakers' licenses, the speculative public can be held to have contributed more to the Club than was the case a year ago. At the top turn the field were in close order, and there was little to choosy among the quintette as they swept into the straight, before tho distance was reached Marbn had drawn out with the lead, and with Britomart giving way to her stable companion the issue was left to the light weight and Black and Red.
