CHEVIOT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Cheviot County Council met at M'Kenzie on September 11th. Present— The Chairman (Mr Geo. Mcßae), and Messrs P. T. Gell, D. McLaren, S. Haughey, and W. Macfarlane. The Foreman was instructed to put a man on to fill up the shingle pit on the road near Mr Hansen's section. Mr McGregor *as granted permission to remove the box culvert in Manuka Bay road and fix it a little lower down. Mr Bellwood was given permission to put a grating on the road fronting his timber yard. Mr Hungerford was given permission to deepen the drain on the main road fronting his property, under the direction of the Foreman, and at hie own cost. The Clerk was instructed to give notice to all persons in the township that allow their refuse water to run on to the roads to abstain from doing so. It was resolved that Mr Walter Macfarlane's application with regard to certain road work in the Kaiwara riding be granted, and that the Chairman and Mr Gell make arrangements as to the position *of the pound and the appointment of a pound' keeper. The Clerk and Foreman of Works were [ instructed to supply the information required by Mr Meredith as to the expenditure of the Government grant of £500 for clearing the Bluff and Brothers roads, and as to the estimated cost of repairing the Hurunui-Greta bridge. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mt T. Taylor and request him to remove the gates from the North Deer Park road which runs through his paddock. It was resolved that Mr Fraser's services be retained until the end of the month, and that Mr Archer's application for an extension of time, until October Bth, for com* mencing hi? duties be granted. Accounts amounting to £34 3s 2d were passed, '
