WAIMATE COUNTY COUNCIL
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday. Present —Mr E, Elworfchy (in the chair), and Messrs Cameron, Rhodes, Murphy, Douglas, Hayes and Lyall. Correspondence waa read—Prom Mr W. M. Smith, objecting to large mobs of sheop being allowed to camp on the road near his ; property. It was decided to insert a notice ;iu tho paper prohibiting shepherds tieing dogs on the roadsides for the purpose of camping sheep. Prom Mr J. Henderson, Glenavy, asking permission to erect two gates across the road line leading to reserve 642 and 1644. It was decided to take the necessary stops to grant the permission asked for. From the Government Auditor, forwarding balance sheets duly certified. The balance sheets were adopted. W. J. Henry, Ranger, wrote asking for instructions as to where to pound cattle taken from the Redolilfe district, the recent decision in the pounding case having left him in doubt how to act. It was decided to write to the member for the district asking his assistance to get tho matter clearly settled.
A deputation, consisting of Messrs Heyman and two other ratepayers, waited on the Council asking for a very necessary work near their properties in the Deep Creek riding. A Committee, consisting of the members for the Deep Creek aod Mr Douglas, was appointed to examine and report.
The Waihao Water Race Committee reported advising that the hut asked to be erected at Redcliff be not granted ; that tibte question of enlarging the head raco be deferred, and that the Redeliff Sohool be supplied with water from the race. The re» port was adopted. The Pareora Watarrace Committee reported the acceptance of the tender of J. Lang for water-race oleaning, and suggested that gauges be placed &fc the junction of the various races ; also, that) they be furnished with the names of ratepayers who had been relieved from paying maintenance charges. The report was adopted.
The Overseer's report was approved, and the application of Mr A. Martin for footbridge at Woolsbed Gaily was declined. It was resolved that the rates for birds' eggs and heads be Is per 100 all round. The following tenders were accepted for contracts :—Contract No. 310, C. Wilson - £B9 Is 6d ; Contract No. 311, D. McKenzie £10 10s; Contract No. 312, R. White £25 15s. A formal resolution was passed making a maintenance rate for the Waihao Irrigation District Id in the £, and on the Lower Pareora water race £d in £, Accounts amounting to £1249 8s 4d were passed.
