THE MAYORALTY.
T* TUB KDITOR OK THX PRESS. Sin, —I read with great satisfaction that an effort is to be made to induce a suitable citizen to come forward as a candidate for tho Mayoralty for the next term. While giving the present occupant of the office credit for doing his bc-sb during the two years he has been Mayor he must feel his own shortcomings in respect to the position. It ie now almosf a part of the duty of our Mayor to receive and to entertain distinguished and educated strangers when passing through our city. We all remember with regret and felt for his Worship when we saw him slighted and ignored as he vt&a by LiOrd Glasgow and Lord Brassey a few months ago. The otlice of Mayor must be elevated, so that it shall not be again treated with such disrespect. His Worship's laudable ambition must have been reaHOiially satisfied, and I hope he will loyally stand aside and help us to make the Mayoral oflice what it should be.—Yours, Sea., Citizen.
