GISBORNE SHOW.
The fourth annual exhibition of the Gisborrje Fanciers' Club took place on August sth and 6th. Though somewhat isolated when compared with other centres, Gisborne can, nevertheless, run a show that would be a credit to fanciers in other towns where the chances for holding a good show are more favourable than in Gisborne. This may be attributed to the fact that in Gisborne there are a number of fanciers of the right colour, who, to promote their hobby, do not allow obstacles great or small to bar their way. And so this year s exhibition is better than last and the Club has the satisfaction of being able to secure pens of its own instead of leasing them as in the past. The various arrangements left little to be desired, which condition of things is no doubt in a great measure, due to the energetic secretary, Mr C. F. Lewis. The exhibits totalled 353 and the quality in each section was very good. Mr Haywood, of Auckland, judged, except in the classes "where he was an exhibitor, where his place was taken by Mr Fawcett. The show was opened by his Worship the Mayor, and heland the Hon. J. Carroll each made a few suitable remarks. Following are the silver medal awards :—Best Game fowl, Mr J. Bouskill, Auckland ; best Hamburg fowl, Mr E. Haywood's golden-pencilled pullet; best Leghorn fowl, Mr T. Hughes. Best bird in the following classes: —Cockerel in Mediterranean, Mr J. Brown; pullet in Mediterranean, Mr H. K. May; cockerel in Asiatic, Mr T. C Pawson ; pullet in Asiatic, Mr E. Haywood; local exhibit in poultry bred by exhibitor, Mr T. C. Dawson.
