LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.
A supplementary Gazette announces that the Government has decided to take the Hatuna Estate, Hawke's Bay, under the compulsory clauses of the Land for Settlements Act. This estate comprises 27,127 acres, of which 22,770 acres are the property of Mr Thomas Purves Russell, the balance being held in trust tor certain memoera of his family. The Minister's classification of the land is—10,000 acres first class land, 14,412 second claes, and 2715 acres third class. The land taken comprises the whole eatate.
