Iβ 7d 19 15 Four-in-hand _ _ Is 6d IV 16 At a meeting of tho Auckland Chamber of Mine 9 some discussion took place regarding the present Mining Act, especially with regard to the suing of individuals for rent owing on mining properties. The Secretary said, under the present Act, the Government conld claim for rent against an individual in connection with mining propertits, whereas it would be fairer if they could distrain agaiust the laud. It was hard that it should be made a personal debc. The Chairman said he had been informed that morning that in one case the Government had pat a bailiff in the house of a person sued. Mr Graven Aicken said in many cases a certain individual acted on behalf of a syndicate, and if by any chance other members of the syndicate were unable to pay, the person in whose mime the property was had to pay for the lot, or a bailiff would be put in, and his furniture would be seized. The Chairman pointed out that while no liability Companies not in fanda could not be forced to pay arrears of rent privato individuals could bo compelled to pay. Mr Brett said a good deal could be eaid on both aides of the question. After some further discussion the meeting ended without a motion.
. BLENHEIM, August 25. The Manager of the Wakamarina Gorge mmo in his report of the 21st inst. says :— "Since last report we have obtained soz pel wt of gold, making in all Hot from twelve feet of ground. Tho prospect is looking further dowuwttream Ijjp."
