WEDNESDAY'S STOCK REPORT.

(B7 OUR COMMERCIAL EDITOR.)

The yards were well filled with stock, and the attendance was up to the average.

There was a fair entry of store sheep, made up principally of light crossbred wethers and ewea in lamb. A good deal of interest appeared to be manifested in the sale, but there was a very poor demand, as graziers are evidently waiting for feed before making purchases. A few small lots of wethers were sold with some difficulty at 9s to 11s Id, and ewes in lamb made 9s 3d to 103 Bd, an even line of sound-mouthed ewes, due to lamb the first week in September, being divided at 9s 9d to 10s 4d.

A few fat lambs ■were sent in, but they were small and sold at 10s to 14s, which was the range oE price* .obtained by Mr W. Hoskins, Templeton, for his consignment A heavy yarding of fat sheep was of a mixed description. The bulk consisted of half /at sheep, both butchers' lots and freezing sorts, and the difficulties attending their disposal gave the market a dull tone. Some lines of light crossbred wethers were taken by a few graziers who are fortunate enough to still own turnips, otherwise more of this class of sheep would have had to be turned out unsold. Prime freezing sheep maintained their values fairly well, and the same may be said of the best butchers' crossbred ewes and merino wethers, but unfinished freezers and half fat crossbred ewes or merino wethers were a drng in the market. The few pens of heavy-weight crossbred"wethers sold well up to "late rates, viz., 16s 7d to 18a, best freezers making 15s to 16a 6d, lighter 13s to 14s 6d, xinfinished wethers and maiden ewes 11s to 12s 6d, best crossbred ewes 10s to 13s 3d, medium 8s 6d to 9s 6d, merino wethers 7s 6d to 11s 4d. For 52 heavy crossbred wethers Messrs A. and D. Mcllraith, Barr Hill, obtained 15s 8d to 18e, while Mr J. Bell, Flemington, 17s 7d, and Mr G. A comparatively small entry of fat cattle, 95 in number, aroused better competition than has been the case of late, and values advanced to the extent of about Is per 1001b, best beef making 16s to 18s, medium 13s to 15s. Steers sold at £4 17s 6(1 to '£7 7s 6rl, heifers £4 10s to £5 10s, cows £3 2s 6d to £5 7s 6(1. Dairy coivs were very dull of sale, best sorts making £5 to £6 ss, and others from £2 10s upwards. There were several useful lines of young stock in the store pens, but only a poor demand was shown. Eighteen months to twenty months' steers and heifers changed hands at 32* 6d to 50s.

A large entry of pigs comprised a considerable proportion of animals thab were only half-fat, and prices suffered a slight decline, to Zhd. being about the average for the better class of baconers and porkers. BaconerH sold at 27s 6d to 463 6d, porkers 15s to 2w 6d, stores 13s 6d to 17s 6d, and weaners 7s to 10s 6d.
