Messrs Tonka, Norton and Co. report having sold privately the champion trotting three-year old record-holder, Dictator (smin 12sec), to a private syndicate of sporting gentlemen. The horse was placed on board the steamer Takapuna, on his return home to Auckland, when, at the last minute, the sale was effected and urgent telegrams had to be forwarded to Lytteiton, requesting the ship's agents to return the horse to terra firma. Dictator will remain in the hand, of his trainer, M. Edwards.
