NEW SIGNAL LAMP.
A railway officer at Dunedin has, says the Times, succeeded in producing a singlehand signal lamp, which will be welcomed by all railway authorities, as it leaves one hand free to perform the multitudinous duties of a railway guard or shunter. The use of this lamp has been practically demon strated, and, it is said, has proved a great success, the various lights being instantaneously put on while held in one hand. The cost is trifling, and the invention will probably bo adopted by railway companies both here and abroad. The rapidity and ease by which it ia worked will, it is believed, save a lot of rough shunting with rolling stock, and cause less wear and tear. The lamp is patented.
