OTAGO ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

DUNEDIN, May 28,

At a nmeting of the Acclimatisation Society, the Chairman (Mr J. P. Maitland), after congratulating the Society, and referring to the heavy loss on the latest shipment of salmon ova, said that the Society had over 9000 salmon bred from their own salmon in the ponds, for which he thought they might take credit. Although they did not grow very lare;e, they were healthy enough, and their progeny were certainly very lively and healthy. Several experienced stalkers from England had had a turn among the red deer, and were greatly pleased with their sport. One gentleman had -written to him expressing the great pleasure he had experienced, and had given a long account of his expedition to the Field. The trout had increased iv Lake EG&wea, and some had been sent down weighing 21$lb, he finest fish he had yet seen. Ihe Chairman and other members referred to the necessity for more stringent laws concerning poaching and the necessity for settlers co-operating. Indignation was expressed at the unsportsmanlike conduct of those who were not content with moderate bags, but shot pigeons and duclcs by hundreds. Mr J. F. Maitland j was re-elected President.
