WEDNESDAY'S STOCK REPORT.

(BY OUR COMMERCIAL SBITOB.)

There was a fairly large entry of stock, and a good attendance, among those present being visitors from a distance, who came to town for the Midwinter Show. Business in prime freezers was brisk, but with regard to other descriptions of sheep, little or uo activity was shown.

There was not a large entry of store sheep and only a limited demand was manifested A line of 1000 wethers in forward condition was sold in several lots at 10s> and another line of about 300 at 9s 5dL Two hundred two and four-tooth crossbred ewes, not in lamb, made 6s 4d, and merino ewes in lamb were sold up to 4s. A few lots of lambs sold at 4s 9vl to 7s 6d.

The yardings of fat lamte are now falling off week after week, but for all lots fit for freezing the demand continues good. The few prime lines entered met with good competition, especially towards the close of the sale, and prices, if anything, showed more improvement. The market was topped'by a line of 200 from Mr J. Gardiner's, Kakaia, which made 11s 9d. Other lines sold as follows: — Mxiirhead's Executors, Sonth40 at 11s 6d; Mr H. Overton, Kirwee, 52 at 11s 5d ; Mr W. There were not many lines of prime freezers in, but generally the quality was satisfactory. Competition was fairly brisk, arid late ratee were fully maintained. The large supply of sheep for trade purposes caused the values for crossbred ewes to recede fully Is to Is 6d per head from the level reached last week, while the offers for merinos were generally not up to expectations, and consequently several lines were withdrawn.
